History

The first elevated line of urban transport came to New York in about 1870, but has not survived to the present. The earliest surviving in the current underground sections of elevated rail opened in 1885. Even earlier, in 1863, opened as the current plot and still relate the time to steam the road.

By the time the opening of the first underground stations in 1904, railroads in the city belonged to two large private companies - BRT (Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, later Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation, BMT) and IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit Company, IRT character: high-speed inter-transport) . The city authorities have taken a large part in the development of the transport system, most lines were built and the city surrendered to the rental companies.

The first subway line, as such, was put into operation Oct. 27, 1904. The station is "City Hall" took passengers first (today it closed to passengers and is only used to turn trains route number 6, where the final stop at the "Brooklyn Bridge"). At the inauguration ceremony subway then Mayor of George Makklelan did train their own hands. Governed by the new subway "Interborough Rapid Transit".

By 1908 the IRT line has consisted of two routes to reach the Bronx (north) to Brooklyn (to the south).

In 1932 the city government created an independent company Independent Subway System (IND).

In 1940 the city bought two private companies. The lines belonging to three different companies together. The opening ceremony of the 1 Jun, 1940 was a significant participation of Mayor Fiorello LaGvardii. He had a historic opportunity to become the second mayor, and he was honored to administer the composition during the ceremony. But the mayor was confined to only those that appeared before the camera in the cab, and then handed over the remote control operator professional.

Much of the elevated line was shut down immediately or as soon as possible. The integration between previously separate systems has been slow.

At the present time are a few tie lines between networks IND and BMT (together they constitute «division B»), but to link these networks with a network of IRT is impossible because it used too narrow tunnels, and the network now is called «division A».
